On Friday night, we went to Union Bar & Grille in the South End to celebrate a friends' birthday. I found this restaurant on Yelp, and it was rated 4 stars with +250 reviews.
I have to introduce to you our waiter for the night, his name is Mauro. It has been awhile since I've had such great service at a restaurant in Boston. Mauro was friendly, and explained everything we asked in details. If I was to give him a score, it would be 101% in excellent servicing his customers.
On with the food for the night...
freshly baked cornbread
Deliciousness, I think I ate at least a half of it!
chilled local oysters: champagne mignonette & cocktail sauce
The oysters were so fresh, I could eat another half dozen myself!
yellow fin tuna tartare: fresh horseradish cream, red onion, cucumber & smoked paprika chips
The tuna melted in my mouth, it was that good.
muscovy duck breast: grilled plums and shaved fennel salad, cranberry jam & orange vinaigrette
Wow, the duck breast was so good, I wanted seconds!
crisp softshell crab: house cured ham “low country” pirlau rice, meyer lemon relish & basil cream
If you're a softshell crab fanatic like me, this is a must try entree. The meyer lemon relish makes this entree bring out the freshness of the softshell crab. Yum!
wild pacific salmon: toasted quinoa, brussels sprout leaves & gooseberry gastrique
A little disappointed in this, but the taste was still very flavorful.
chocolate cherry bread pudding: nuttella & vanilla bean ice cream
THIS WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
chocolate souffle
Disappointed, thought it would be fluffier - this was a little too sweet.
grilled peach in caramel popcorn
Never thought fresh fruit grilled could be this tasty, it blends really well with the caramel sauce and popcorn when you eat it together.
We were so full after eating our entree, we were only able to order 2 desserts. To our surprise, Mauro served the Chocolate Cherry Bread Pudding to us - on the house. He did tell us how delicious it was, but we didn't think it would be good - until we actually tried it - it was fluffy and airy, you couldn't find it anywhere else in Boston. A definite must try!
I will definitely be back to Union Bar & Grille for the food, and of course, our wonderful waiter, Mauro. :)
Stay tuned for more beyond yummy-licious restaurant reviews...
